Overview

Wine-tour on the Moselle cycle path: In close proximity to the river, surrounded by nature, urban, mysterious and spectacular; these are all attributes that describe the Mosel Cycle Path perfectly and which ensure you are never bored. Highlight after highlight can be found on a total of 195 kilometres and 4 stages between Trier and the mouth of the Mosel in Koblenz. The Mosel Cycle Path isn’t really about sporting ambition as the routes, which are mostly asphalted and run separately from the main roads, are relatively flat and without major gradients. Rather, it’s the experience and enjoyment aspects that characterise the Mosel Cycle Path!

Day 1 Day 1 - Arrive in Trier

Highlights: Trier, city tour, wine region

Individual arrival to the oldest city of Germany. Allow the last 2000 years to pass by in a time lapse during a city round trip and discover world-known attractions. In the evening, you can enjoy the unique Riesling wine in one of the traditional wine taverns in Trier, as well as the atmosphere which is steeped in history.

Day 2 Day 2 - Ride Trier to Piesport

Highlights: Mosel river, Trittenheim, Neumagen-Dhron, Piesport

Today, the route leads you on the bank of the Moselle through peaceful wine villages. From Trittenheim, you can reach the other riverbank by crossing one of the oldest bridges and view the old, preserved ferry towers. You can also enjoy a wonderful view over the Mosel valley from the vineyards above the village.
After passing the oldest wine village in Germany, Neumagen-Dhron, you arrive to Piesport. Here you will visit an impressively restored Roman cellar dating back to the 4th century, which will make you step back in the winemaking history.

Day 3 Day 3 - Cycle Piesport to Traben Trarbach

Highlights: Bernkastel-Kues, Zeltingen, Traben Trarbach

Today it is worthwhile to take a side-trip to the famous wine village Bernkastel-Kues and visit the beautifull market square, which is surrounded by half-timbered houses. Zeltingen displays a number of grand baroque buildings in Moselle tradition.

Day 4 Day 4 - Ride to Cochem

Highlights: Zeller Hamm loop, Calmont, Cochem

After you leave Traben-Trabah in the morning, you will arrive at the Moselle loop in Zell, called the "Zeller Hamm". The Marienburg castle, around 900 years old, sits enthroned on the mountain ridge.Countless wine slopes are a cheer to the heart, inviting you to take part in a wine-tasting in one of the traditional taverns. Before you reach Cochem, you can enjoy a wonderful view on Europe’s steepest vineyard, the Calmont. You will arrive in Cochem, known for its imposing fortress complexes as well as for the Reichsburg castle, a landmark of german castle romance.

Day 5 Day 5 - Ride Cochem to Koblenz

Highlights: Moselkern, Eltz Castle, Kobern-Gondorf, Koblenz, Ehrenbreitstein Fortress

After a couple of kiloemters you will reach Moselkern directly along the banks of the Moselle. From there it is worth taking a short detour to the nearby Eltz fairy tale castle. The village of Kobern-Gondorf invites you to linger and have a look at its historic half-timbered houses around the market square. Between the Moselle and parts of the vineyards, the route continues via Winningen to Koblenz. Here the Moselle flows into the Rhine at the Deutsches Eck. An intoxicating panoramic view awaits you on the cable car ride to Ehrenbreitstein Fortress (incl.). The numerous sights allow you to immerse yourself in the varied past of the city. End the day with an evening stroll. Overnight in Koblenz.

Difficulty description

The entire route is flat and well signed. The Moselle-cycle-path is nearly car-free and is mostly paved. It is rated as a 5-Star cycling path. If you are still concerned and don’t want to worry about your fitness and ability, we recommend a pedal assisted bike.

Bike rental

We offer quality bikes in different styles, all great options for this bike tour. Our bikes are maintained and delivered in optimal working condition.

For this tour, you can choose between:
Touring Bike (Hybrid):The rental bikes are comfortable 28” trekking bike, equipped with Shimano eight-speed gearbox or a new 24-speed chain/gear hub with freewheel. You can choose between a male model (with top-tube) and a unisex model with low-step frame. Both are available in different frame sizes. The handlebars are ergonomically shaped. All bikes are equipped with a rack (rear wheel) and ideal for multi-day trips with bike panniers.
E-bike: In addition to touring bikes, e-bikes (pedelecs) are also offered from the brands EBIKE / Velo de Ville / Kreidler. These are all equipped with a powerful battery and have a BOSCH or SHIMANO mid-engine, which will give you a pleasant tailwind on your bike tour.

The prices below are per bike for the duration of the tour, including delivery to starting point and collection from ending point.

Starting point

We recommend flying in Frankfurt International Airport (FRA).
You can also fly into the international airport of Luxemburg.

Arrival instructions:
There are good train connections between Trier/Koblenz and Frankfurt Airport. If you prefer a private transfer from the airport to your first hotel (see prices below), please inquire.

Frankfurt Airport has a railway station located next to the main ground-side passenger terminal, to reach Trier by train. The train station in Trier is still one mile from your hotel so you will need to take a taxi or a local bus.
Train travel duration to Trier is approx. 2h30min. The train train ticket cost is between €50 - €110 per person.
For your return journey from Koblenz to Frankfurt Airport, you can easily reach the airport by train in approximately 2 hours.

If you decide to fly into Luxemburg Airport, take a direct bus to Trier.
Trains from Koblenz also connect to Luxembourg Airport, providing another transportation option for your departure.
